SUMMARY: Dec Printserver 17 printer clunking

Turns out the only metal gear on the fuser was badly worn inside. Some
ingenious, talented people here in our machine shop fabricated an insert
for the gear and all is well. Saving us $400 labor and $280 for Fuser
Maintenance Kit.

Thanks....
Dan

>I'm sorry, this may not be the right place, but I figured someone here may
have a solution.

>We've got a DEC Printserver 17 printer that recently has been "clunking".
It sounds like the gears on the paper exit are jumping, but when the
printer is open, the gears move without resistance or noise. The gears all
appear not to be stripped.
>
>I only ask since we do not have it under service anymore and it will cost
$200/hr and a minimum of 2 hours to get it fixed.... money better spent on
my needed upgrades!

>Thank you very much!
