Thanks for all the suggestions - unfortunately none of them worked or
they were things I'd already done.
It turned out all I needed to do to get rid of them was use a raw
queue rather than a text one. Hopefully since they are text only
printers it wont cause other problems.
HP have a really good web support page with FAQ's and tech support on
specific products which I found useful for other JetDirect issues. It
may be useful to any of you using these products -
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/prodhome/jd2591a.html Their online doco
is more up to date than the books that come with the servers.

Hi
We are setting up printing to remote lineprinters through HP JetDirect
servers both single and multiple port. We have the problem with our
testprints that the first three characters of the job printed are k2G.
This is offsetting what is left on the line and unacceptable for
pre-printed stationary. It is happening when printing to Citohs and I
think Genicoms.
Anyone had this problem or have any ideas.
Just an addendum to the question I asked earlier (see below) The k2G
is an ESCP2 character which does some sort of combination of linefeed,
carriage return and form feed. Probably an carriage return before
starting a new job.
This is definitely being put in by the JetDirect boxes.
Our printers being older ones don't understand this character set and
explicitly print the k2G instead. I am pretty sure this is the reason
behind the problem. I still need a solution.
Is anyone printing to older printers via jetdirect?
TIA
Sue
