gettimer() does not work

Hi,

I cannot get the gettimer() function working. Anybody know why ?
In the following code example, gettimer returns EINVAL (Invalid
argument).

       struct itimerspec t;

        if (gettimer(TIMEOFDAY, &t))
               perror("gettimer");
