My original post was:
Hello managers,
I've found several references to Networker in the archives but nothing
relating to my problem.
I am in the process of configuring a pair of Alpha 8400s to be a TruCluster
ASE.(DU4.0D TCR1.5)
NSR loads properly and appears to start when booting, but the nsrd daemon
just dies. I have found core files in /nsr/cores associated with nsrd and
nsrexecd. No other messages are logged in any daemon.logs.
Starting the /sbin/rc3.d/S94nsrd script manually has the same result.
Any ideas or suggestions?

I still don't know why nsrd was causing a core dump. The tape drive was on
a shared bus but I was only trying to load nsr as a single server.
Interestingly, a second system worked fine. Which lead me to believe it
had something to do with the scsi id of the kzpsa. But changing the id's
only resulted in both systems not working. Perhaps because I had the tape
drive on the shared bus and had all the cluster licenses loaded, nsrd just
decided to bug out.
Anyway, once I found the documentation in usr/opt/BRX440/usr/doc (the
documentation isn't available until you've loaded nsr, which means you
can't read the installation guide until nsr is installed ) and loaded nsr
as a cluster service ( which is what I wanted anyway) everything went
reasonably well.
For a summary, I'll just outline the basic steps I had to take.
1) Load licenses
For a cluster failover implementation on two Alpha 8400s and a TL89 tape I
needed:
JUKEBOX-TIER-1
DECNSR-CLUST-CLNT3
DECNSR-NET-SVR
DECNSR-CLUST-SVR
2) Install TruCluster ASE, renumber the scsi busses, and configure the members
3) Load SCSI CAM Utilities (CLCMC313)
Make the jukebox device with /dev/MAKEDEV.MC
4) Remake the /dev/rmt0h and /dev/nrmt0h (the renumbering had changed my
device location)
5)Load nsr
Answer "yes" to cluster service.
Basically take the defaults to other questions.
6) Use asemgr to create a Tape Service
Use the service name as the mount point and as the argument to the
start/stop scripts.
So far so good.
