SCSI disks hangs on DU 4.0D

I have upgraded an Alphastation 255 tu 40D and the patch kit 001.
Since this upgrade, 2 external Quantum disks begin to show IO errors,
becoming unavailable.
A reboot was necessary to have them on line again.
These disks reconnected to a Sun work fine so I do not suspect them.
I have not yet tried to remove the SCSI patch included in patch kit 001.
