AdvFS versus raw with Oracle

Hi osf-managers,

I have a question regarding performance of oracle using filesystems
(advfs) instead of raw partitions.

We have a large oracle 8 database currently running using raw partitions
on top of LSM for all the major database areas. Our dbas would like to
convert this to managed filesystems, i.e. advfs, to utilise the disk
space and make life easier to manage. The disks themselves sit on a
combination of HSZ50 and 70s and are build as predominately as stripe
sets. I've seen instances (not related to this system or oracle) where
using filesystems can cause degraded performance due to excessive load
on the primary cpu (this box has 6 ev5/625 cpus). Am I likely to get
performance hits on the cpus if we convert? Also are there any kernel
parameters I can tweak to maximise filesystem and oracle performance?

Thanks,
Dave Campbell
