Thanks to responses from Sean O'Connell and Randall Winchester I was able
to put in place a new, sendmail-891 customized "mailstats" binary file.

How it was resolved:

[A]
I went to the "mailstats" directory in my sendmail 8.9.1 install path.
It contains lots of "mailstats*" files plus a "Build" command.
I executed the "./Build" and it created an obj. sub-directory,
"obj.OSF1.V4.0.alpha."

I then "cd" to this new directory and voila, it contains a new "mailstats"
binary. I copied it to "/usr/sbin/mailstats" after renaming the old one
with a ".old" appendage (in case I want to go back to it).

Thanks Sean, for being the spark plug! (-;

As per Randall Winchester...
