I have two alpha machines both running Digital Unix 4.0d, but they have
different hardware configurations. I want to copy an application from one
box to the other. I know the application modifies a lot of system files, so
initially I thought I would backup all file systems on the source box, then
restore them on the target box. I've since thought that this would not be a
good idea to do with the root partition -- surely I don't want to use a
different kernel, right? So, is it okay to overwrite the /usr and /var
partitions on one alpha with those from another alpha with a different
hardware configuration? Does this make sense?
Thanks,
chris
