Dear Fellow Managers,

I seek your opinion on the following configuration:

We are considering a new ALPHA server 1200 with 7 x 4gig drives in a RAID 5
(3channel raid controller) configuration with 1 hot spare, using Advfs.

Is it OK to configure root & usr in this RAID 5 set(alongwith application
data)? I am thinking of doing this because of the advantage of RAID 5(that
you can hotswap when one disk goes!). I have an existing 2000 where I kept
the root & usr in a ufs(disk of its own) and kept the application data on
RAID5/advfs.

Has anyone done this before?

What are the pros & cons? I will summarize.

Regards,
Shiva
