Hi,
I am really glad I found this list. Many thanks to:

I'll summarize now and maybe later, if new data arises when I actually
do the upgrade.
For now - the procedure to upgrade UNIX, from 4.0b to 4.0d would be:
Easy way:
1. Do the backup, preferably in single user mode, with vdump, take care
you backup all file systems
2. Start the installupdate procedure from 4.0d CDROM
3. If neccesary, remove (and later re-install) some of the layered
products, about which installupdate complains, using setld.
4. Installupdate should do everything else smoothly, after all the
problematic subsets are removed.
5. Re-install BSD sendmail (run over by Digital's)
6. Re install subsets you need, but had to remove for installupdate
Problems to (probablly) deal with:
- 4.0d needs a bigger root partition than 4.0b. If I odn't have enough
space, I'll need to backup, repartition a disk, restore, install 4.b and
then do the update (or directly to 4.0d?).
- for deinstallation of some of those layered products (subsets), that
were in the kernel, I'll need to rebuld the 4.0b kernel first.
- If you have ZLX graphic card, you can't use O3d subsets with 4.0d.
Tips and hints:
- if upgrade fails, reload from backup :))))))
- learn more about setld from man (reference pages for administrators)
- learn more about installupdate
- read the documentation, best is to have it online (documentation CD)
while you do all this.
