SWXCR disk errors

Our SWXCR monitor has been reporting soft errors almost daily for a disk
in a RAID 5 set on one of our Alpha's running DU 3.2G.

A couple of questions:

1.) How many soft errors and/or hard errors does it take before the Hot
    Spare (HSP) will kick in?

2.) Does anyone have an estimate (Rule of thumb?) as to how long the
    recovery process will take?

The RAID 5 set contains six 2 GB rz28 disks on a PCI SWXCR
        Physical size 12 GB
        Effective size 10 GB
        Total usage 4.2 GB

Time to rebuild under minimal system load (with users) = _?_
Time to rebuild while booted under the RAID firmware (no load) = _?_

3.) I plan to fail the drive while booted under the SWXCR Mgr at the
firmware level. Are there any gotchas? I assume this would be
safer/faster than using the online SWXCR Mgr, correct?
