>From the responses, I am configuring the machine as follows:
2 x 4 gigs in a mirror for root and /usr with ufs
5 x 4 gigs in a RAID5 configuration with advfs for application data
The responses basically say:
1. None have configured the way I was proposing(the only advantage is
managing the disks space in one single volume).
2. Putting root & /usr in the RAID5/advfs will affect the performance(could
become an I/O bottleneck)
3. If root & /usr are in a RAID Mirror, it improves performance(on the
reads) giving redundancy and hot-swap capability.
