Well, it seems my little error message is so unusual, no one has heard
of it before.
Here's the original message:
========================================================
This past weekend, I switched a DE500 network card on an AS8400 running
DU4.0d from 10Mbit half-duplex to 100Mbit half-duplex to take advantage
of a network upgrade. After doing this, I have been receiving the
following message in my /var/adm/messages log and on the console:
vmunix: shared_intr_dispatch: stray interrupt = 0x7fd9c1c0
The stray interrupt is always at the same address. I don't receive any
hardware error messages in the binary logs, nor do I receive these
messages on any other server on this network. Any ideas what this could
be telling me? (other than having a stray interrupt)
=========================================================
Here's the only response; from Paul Kitwin (former SA for my company)
[basker_at_ricochet.net]
It means that the machine is about to explode!
RUNNNNNNNNNNN
GET OUTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Good morning Blake.
==========================================================
I honestly don't think the problem is as critical as Paul made it sound.
However, I've talked to Digital (Compaq) Tech Support, and they
mentioned that it could be a bad interrupt being passed by an
application, or it could be some sort of hardware failure; either the
network card, the cable, the hub, or the router. There are no error
messages being logged by the binary logger (as seen from DECEvent), and
given that I see these errors mainly during business hours, I'm more
willing to blame the overtaxed network which these errors are being
logged on.
Hopefully this will help any of you out in case you get this wonderful
message someday.
Best regards,
