================ ORIGINAL POSTING:

Does anyone know of any good DU systems admin educational courses?

I'm not looking for general sys admin classes; I'm looking for
good classes on DU-specific topics.

================ SUMMARY:

The consensus was:

Global Knowledge Networks - has several courses on Digital UNix,
System admin, Utitlties and commands, Tcpip, Advfs etc. Check out
their web site for details.

Digital sold their training dept to them several years back, and
their instructors are well versed in Digital's UNix.

================ ADDITIONAL REPLIES FOLLOW:

The only DU sysadmin classes I'm aware of are given by Global Knowledge Network

Look around the website I listed above. These people took over the official
Digital Unix training so they have DU plus alot more. I haven't tried any
myself so I can't recommend them, but they look pretty good as far as one can
tell from a website. If cost is any indication, I'd expect them to be
excellent. :)

I've never taken any classes with them, so caveat emptor, but
Global Knowledge Networks offers DU specific classes, including,
for example classes on LSM, AdvFS and clustering.

Perhaps the reason is that they seem to be a spinoff of DEC.

The syllabuses look quite good. Now if only they didn't send
me their brochures so often...

The DU System Administration classes are offered through Global
Knowledge Network and take place on a monthly basis across the US and
Canada. I have taken the class and was very pleased with the
information and practical knowldege I gained over the five days. You
can get more information by checking our their website:

http://www.globalknowledge.com

The courses offered by Global Knowledge are great. I think the URL for
their Web site is http://www.globalknowledge.com and there's also a link
to the Web site via DEC's Web site.

I've taken the courses you are looking for from Global
Knowledge Network. This was formerly the Digital Training
Organization (which was sold off to GKN a couple of years
ago), and has the same instructors, etc. that used to work
for Digital.

Following is their US and Canada info :
USA Phone 919-469-7000, Fax 919-469-7070
Canada Phone 800-465-2226, Fax

The current Training Catalog lists the following for DU :
Utilities & Commands
v4.0 System Admin
v4.0 (TCP/IP) Network Mgmt
AdvFS, LSM and RAID Config and Mgmt
TruCluster Software Config and Mgmt
Shell Programming Featuring KornShell
v4.0 Security Mgmt
v4.0 Performance Mgmt

They also offer Self-Paced instruction (disk, CD-ROM,
manuals, etc.).

I've heard good things about the course offered by Global Knowledge
Network, DIGITAL's "Authorized Training Provider". Plan to take the
Sys Admin class myself in the next couple months, probably in Chicago.

Check out http://am.globalknowledge.com . Or call 919-469-7000.

Global Knowledge Network they have allof the digital unix courses

The official DEC courses for UNIX are pretty good. However, they do
not cover all admin topics. They never seem to do networking but on
the courses I have done, we always managed to wangle a bit of TCP/IP.

Check out DEC's web page - www.digital.com
