userdel: Specified user not found.

Howdy chaps,

I have got a couple of 8400's running 4.0(b) and 4.0(d).

I can use the "userdel" command on the 8400 running 4.0(b),
but it fails on 4.0(d). The response issued from the userdel
command is

      userdel: Specified user not found.

This happens whether the user has been added via vipw, useradd
(with mkpasswd) or adduser. Initially I thought it might be
because the hashed database was out of date, but running mkpasswd
does not fix the problem...

None of these machines are running C2 security.

Is there some incantation that I should utter before running
userdel?

Does anybody know of the patch that I should apply?

BTW, I am using userdel in an script, so that rules out any XWindows
application.

cheers,
andrew
