Hi All,
I need to upgrade 5 systems to DU V4.0d and I have some
generic questions:
after backups.... :-)
1) I have 2 DU 3.2g systems running ASE. I believe I have to
de-install ASE before I can start upgrading. When I delete
the subsets, and go through the upgrade procedure, then
install the latest ASE subsets and re-install the services,
will the info on the disks be destroyed or will all the info
still be on the disks? I assume the data would be ok, but
I thought I would ask. Should I (or do I have to) delete the
services before removing the subsets?
(I realize I can't go directly to V4.0d from 3.2g)
2) All my system disks are advfs and lsm mirrored. If I read correctly,
I need to de-install lsm and then upgrading with advfs disks shouldn't
be
a problem, correct? Then I just have to re-mirror with LSM again.
I don't see a need of keeping the LSM config files as only the
system disks are using LSM. It would be easier just to delete the
whole lsm config and re-install.
3) One of my system disks has a dual /var disk. That is, on one
disk, /var is the advfs h partition and /var is also on another advsf
c partition on another disk (used with addvol). Would I have
to get /, /usr and /var all on one disk before I upgrade or would
keeping
/var with 2 disks be ok? Doing a rmvol wouldn't be a problem as
it would fit on the original system disk.
That's all I can think of at the moment. I think I'm all set as long as
the firmware upgrades go ok (never done it before).
4) I've seen some mail lately from the list wondering what to do
with the mkfdmn -x -p. This was also a concern of mine as I
have Ingres databases. In the release notes for DU4.0D, this
problem is corrected and and the -x -p options will be obsolete.
Just an FYI on that.
thanks,
Allan
