Hello System Managers:
I have what I think is a problem that perhaps you can shed some light
on. I have an Alpha 2100 server running DU 4.0b with 2 EV5 300MHz
processors and 1.5 GB memory. Sometimes when looking at the processes I
notice that there will be a couple of user runnable processes (R status)
that continue to accumulate cpu time even though the process may just be a
dxnotepad process or an xwindow that was open from an application (ANSYS)
but with no user activity from the user end, even for 2 or 3 days
(sometimes the users just keep the xwindow open for long periods of time
with no activity) but the process keeps accumulating cpu time and using up
high percentages of system resources (memory and cpu). The users log in
to the Alpha server via Exceed (xwindow emulator). I don't understand why
those processes do not become idle processes and relinquish the system
resources. I would appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide.
TIA,
