Arrigo didn't get the full irony ... the announcement points you to a press
release on the new EV6-based machines, and down at the bottom we find:
> Company Background
> Founded in 1982, Compaq Computer Corporation is a ...
No, no! I'm sure it was 1962! or was it 1952?

Subject: Time for a laugh: Digital 4.0E announcement
Dear all,
have a good laugh and read the 4.0E announcement:
http://www.unix.digital.com/announcements/index.html
clearly a product of the Compaq PC people if you read the bit with:
[...]
Other features include:
[some serious stuff]
* Default for floppy device increased from 600 to 666
I couldn't help laughing when I read this. Clearly a umask is too
hard
to grasp for PC people and it does look really impressive! And what
a
brilliant security hole it will be.
I can't wait to sell it to my computer-illiterate boss: "Just
imagine, 66 bits more powerful when accessing the floppy", "Do we
need
it?", "Of course, our entire development strategy was focused on
such
an improvement!".
