How to increase the max. number of X-clients?

I ran into trouble with X-windows (CDE) in DEC UNIX 4.0D. The X-windows
hangs, when the maximum number of clients is exceeded. This happens,
when I run a few large X-applications, such as two FrameMakers at the
same time from remote machines to the DEC UNIX screen.

Question: How does one increase the number of clients to the Xserver
(Xdec)? Is there a command line option to do that? Or is it possible
at all (hopefully, the max. number of X-clients hasn't been hard-coded
into Xdec)?

Once again, I found nothing in the documentation set (X Window System
Environment in the HTML docs and Xdec man page). Maybe someone on this
list knows the answer?
