After reading the last summary regarding fresh install
vs the triple upgrade, and since before doing our upgrade
we will be replaceing (4) 2gb drives with (4) 8gb drives
The fresh installation looks like the better/faster choice.
as well as our root partition has less than 75mb (which
as per the summary would pose a problem on the upgrades)

I didn't do the initial setup of this machine (2100 4/275).

I want to backup the (4) 2gb drives to our
(2) 4gb drives as well as backup to tape just in case.

If I'm doing a fresh install. Will I be able to access the
data from the (2)4gb drives after the install to make
restoring the data faster? These drives are JBOD on the raid
controller vs. the standard SCSI controller, or will I have
to stick to restoring from tape.

What is involved from start on for a fresh install, I don't
mean hand holding instructions, just basic step descriptions.
I have never done a fresh install.
