Managers,
We have been trying to create an alternate print server, but
have been running into problems. The current server is a 4100
running v4.0D (patch kit 2), and LPSBASE510, and the standby is
an 3000/500 on v4.0b (PK8). Originally, we copied over the LPS
directory tree, printcap file, etc, but ran into problems.
DEC advised us to install LPSBASE520, which we did, but that
hasn't changed anything, we still get the error message:
FAILURE in print filters...please contact the system manager!
The /var/adm/speedy.err file shows a rather strange set of
errors, in that they refer to unreferenced (?) queues:
lpsof Nov 10 12:05:44: FatalError() reentered, creating core image file: /usr
/var/spool/speedy/core
lpsof Nov 10 12:06:31: Unable to change directory to /usr/spool/speedyland7:
No such file or directory
lpsof Nov 10 12:06:31: Unable to change directory to /usr/spool/small7: No su
ch file or directory
lpsof Nov 10 12:06:31: Unable to change directory to /usr/spool/post7: No suc
h file or directory
lpsof Nov 10 12:06:31: Failure to open lpsof data file(/usr/var/spool/speedy/
.lpsofdata): Permission denied
lpsof Nov 10 12:06:31: Failure to fully initialize the output filter!
lpsof Nov 10 12:06:31: INTERNAL ERROR DETECTED...send SIGINT to process 8660
to exit...
lpsof Nov 10 12:06:31: New queue status: FAILURE in print filters...please co
ntact the system manager!
We were hoping someone would have had some expeirience with this. The only
applicable message we found in the archives was never answered, apparently.
Thanks,
Michael
