two suggestions were:
There is a rotary switch on the graphics card which changes the resolution.
modify /usr/dt/config/Xservers.con
:0 Local local_at_console /usr/bin/X11/X :0 -nice -2 -screen0 800
The Xservers.con mod made no change.
The hardware switch made the monitor do scary things...
Kristin Larson wrote me back and said that I would need to re-compile the
kernel
in order for the hardware change to take work properly. Unfortunately,
this is not an
acceptable solution, as I need to be able to change resolutions simply.
(i.e. I need to be able to show a physicist how to do it at a conference
where I
won't be!) I don't think I want a physicist mucking around with my kernel!
If you
know what I mean...
Thanks for all the timely responses...
