thanks go especially to
"Paul.Casteels" <casteels_at_uia.ua.ac.be>
for a very intensive email-support which in the end succeeded, but also to
"Sean O'Connell" <sean_at_stat.Duke.EDU>
John Speno <speno_at_isc.upenn.edu>
who all pointed me to look at my packetfilter devices which were not present!
so a
cd /dev/
./MAKEDEV pfilt
fixed my problem!
other suggestions included :
Make sure you build your kernel with the Packetfilter options (number
5 in doconfig)
but that was already the case!
so thanks again, people!!!

original question:
dear managers,
we are trying to setup an alphastation 200 (under DU 4.0b) as a CAP-server (CAP 6.0 , PL196).
the sources are compiled, the udp-ports are registered in /etc/services but rying to start the server gives me:
axolotl:/<5>bin>sudo aarpd tu0 "ABC"
open: tu0: No such file or directory
10:08:51 11/13/98 pi_open: aarp_init: No such file or directory
init_enet: network initialization failed
whereas on our other machines the server starts w/o problems. where do i have to search for the cause of the pr
oblem? - other network stuff runs fine (inetd, httpd, amandad, automounter, ...)
any suggestions??
