We're planning a project here which would involve storing a large number of
files (certainly several thousand, perhaps as many as several tens of
thousands) in a single directory. Typical file size would be about 1
Mbyte. We're running DU-4.0B and all our file systems are advfs. I know
that in older versions of unix (i.e. with ufs) this would be extremely
inefficient. Does advfs suffer from the same problem?
We can redesign the storage layout to divide the files up into a number of
smaller directories if we have to, but keeping it all in one huge directory
would make things a bit simplier for us.
