Thanks to Martin Mokrejs and John Speno for attempting to rescue me
out of the bind (no pun intended) I had yesterday with getting sendmail
8.8.8 to masquerade things properly.
As it turned out, we believe that an older version of the sendmail binary
was placed on the affected system by our vendor's site engineer. Removing
that binary so that the sendmail 8.8.8 binary that we put on that system
could be seen seems to have solved the problem. This is a solution that
surprised me because when I attempted to telnet to the sendmail port of
the affected system, it reported itself as being sendmail 8.8.8.
Masquerading works fine now for us.
