Hi managers,

I'm glad to add a very nice & important piece of info about DLT
I just received from <ABenthem_at_PVF.NL>

--- There is a great tool to monitor the compression-ratio of dlt-drives:
--- dltcounters
--- You can find it at: http://www.lnf.infn.it/~wolf/dlt/

dltcounters was made by Wolfgang Grandegger ( wolf_at_hpserver.lnf.infn.it )
I installed it (on my Dunix 4.0d) and soon used: it is very nice !

Here a piece of info you can get from dltcounters web page

% dltcounters /dev/nrmt0h
     Read compression: 2995 / 100
     Write compression: 952 / 100
Bytes to host: 187 MB + 499760 Bytes
Bytes from tape: 6 MB + 281516 Bytes
Bytes from host: 843 MB + 434224 Bytes
Bytes to tape: 88 MB + 88 Bytes

% dltcounters -s /dev/rmt/4hcn
     2995 952 187 499760 6 281516 843 434224 88 618839

At each reload of the DLT cassette
the counters are reset. So, if you do copies without rewind it really
tells you how much is already on tape. You also can use it while
somebody is writing to tape to see how much is already transferred.

Hoping this helps somebody else, too
Thanks to Wolfgang Grandegger & ABenthem

Emanuele
