No luck searching the archives on this one.
We've got an extremely heterogeneous Unix shop that includes three Alpha
Digital Unix machines, v4.0b-d. All have been set up with "install
everything".
And it seems that Digital Unix doesn't know about sar. Or, at least, it's
not present on these machines.
Okay, so sar has it's problems, but I appreciate the ability to snapshot
performance over extended periods of time with sa1 (and minimal setup).
(e.g. The real question is not IF performance falls below needs, but how
LONG it stays that way during the space of a week). For me, the combination
of iostat/vmstat/swapon/dxsysinfo/etc doesn't really cut it. And it's
extremely unlikely that we will ever purchase Performance Manager. Yes,
I've reviewed the information on the documentation CDRom.
Have I missed something about performance monitoring in v4.0? Can anyone
point me to an open source sar that works on 4.0? Any other suggestions?
Will summarize.
