Hi.

I'm trying to put an old IBM 7207-012 (aka Tandberg 4100) tape drive
onto a DEC 3000-300 running 4.0d. The drive is a 1/4" 1.2 gig QIC 1000
drive taken off an RS/6000. The drive is correctly identified at
boot up:

tz5 at scsi0 target 5 lun 0 (LID=1) (TANDBERG IBM 4100 I04:)

I am putting the backup onto a QIC-525 tape (1020 ft) and it is not
write protected. Attempted dumps look line this:

# dump 0dsfu 16000 1020 /dev/nrmt0h /
dump: Dumping from host jurassic.localdomain.net
dump: Date of this level 0 dump: Sat Dec 5 14:57:53 1998 EST
dump: Date of last level 0 dump: the start of the epoch
dump: Dumping /dev/rrz0a (/) to /dev/nrmt0h
dump: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
dump: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
dump: Estimate: 61896 tape blocks on 1 volume(s)
dump: Dumping (Pass III) [directories]
dump: Volume 1, tape # 0001, begins with blocks from i-node 2
dump: Check if tape is write protected.
dump: Write error -- wanted to write: 10240, only wrote: -1
slave_work(): write(): I/O error
dump: Write error - /dev/nrmt0h, volume 1, 0 feet -- cannot recover
dump: NEEDS ATTENTION: Do you want to restart this volume?: ("yes" or "no")
no
dump: SIGTERM received
dump: The ENTIRE dump is aborted

Here is the output of a 'mt status' command:

# mt -f /dev/nrmt0h status

AFAIK, this drive is in working condition. Any help would be appreciated and
I will post a summary.

Thanks.
