Most people recommended using lsof which was helpful. I looked it up on
the internet and got a great help page which was much clearer than the man
pages. It was also recommended that I use a find script vs. a long listing
because sometimes the blank files will show up. However, after all of
these attempts were made, we ended up taking down the oracle database in
order to reboot the server--- yes the Microsoft Solution! Once the database

was taken down we regained the space on root. It must have been some bad
code or a zombie process that had a hold of a file.
