Hello,

My original mail was the following:

Hello,

We would like to buy a SCSI CD-writer. We have an old DEC3000-300 with
Digital Unix 4.0d. So, we would like to connect the CD-writer to the
DECStation.

I think I will write CDs with the freeware cdwrite and mkisofs programs.

Which CD-writer recommend for me?

And here are the answers...

Hello,

We have a very similar situation to yours: we use a DEC3000/600 running
DU4.0d. We use (almost) exclusively mkhybrid (mkisofs-lookalike) and
cdwrite. The writer is a YAMAHA CRW4260 (which is 6 speed reading, 4 speed
writing and 2 speed rewriting). We actually have another of these on a
Linux machine. Both have been in use very intensively for about a year. I
would recommend them (or even Yamaha in general). They are not really
cheap though.

Greetings,

Bert.

I've been trying to get a Yamaha CDRW 4260? working with mksiofs and
cdrecord. I've just started experimenting on DEC 3000 600's but will also
try our DEC 3000 300. My experience so far is that the scsi interface
(turbo channel bus) and Yamaha isn't happy. The cdrecord software cannot
recognize the device, even if the system does.
Where can I get cdwrite?

I just installed TEAC CD-R55S on a DEC 3000-600 running DU 3.0c
with a couple commented-out routines, cdrecord/mkisofs
which I got from a public-domain site
compiled and ran.
The cdrom's produced were readable on all 6 drives and operating systems
I tried.
I have not yet been able to get mkisofs | cdrecord pipe working.
I have to create a file with mkisofs and then in a separate step
cdrecord that file to the CD-R disk.
