The answer seems to be that for 4.0b and above, there is a new included utility, btcreate (and its partner btextract) that can be used for creating a bootable tape. Cautionary notes were given that not all hardware/firmware combinations will support this, nor are all tape drives supported.
In addition, Cory mentioned his site is making their own custom bootable CD-ROM, but as I don't have access to a CD-Recorder, have to stick with tape.
I'll have to do a bit of reading up on btcreate, and investigation in to what my system will allow, so this is all the summary I have.
