Problem with gprof

I am trying to profile a fortran code.
I compiled and linked (f77/f90) with -pg
and ran it. Trying to run gprof results in
the following error message:

gprof: Can not allocate 18446744073709551576
bytes after allocating 303104 bytes

The code is about 14 MB in size.
Setup: DU 4.0d, 256Mb Ram, 512 Mb Swap.

Any hints?
