excessive bootp requests

Lately I have had these in my daemon.log (I have my tftp set to log
all requests - that's not my problem).

Nov 20 17:52:58 alpha bootpd[26234]: recvd pkt from IP addr 0.0.0.0
Nov 20 17:52:58 alpha bootpd[26234]: request from Ethernet address
00.00.79.58.57.50
Nov 20 17:52:58 alpha bootpd[26234]: unknown client Ethernet address
00.00.79.58.57.50

These have been showing up now 2x every 5 minutes

Doing a tcpdump for that machine code I get:

04:28:45.810080 0:0:79:58:57:50 ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff ip 342: 0.0.0.0.bootpc
> 255.2
55.255.255.bootps: xid:0x415b secs:30928 [|bootp]
04:28:50.900448 0:0:79:58:57:50 ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff ip 342: 0.0.0.0.bootpc
> 255.2
55.255.255.bootps: xid:0x415c secs:30933 [|bootp]

After checking every PC/NIC card, I finally found what is sending these:

It's our ethernet hub?? It's a compaq netelligent (2016 10-base-T
repeater).
It is connected to our other hub via an uplink cable (the compaq is set
for x-link)
This particular unit has a 9-pin management port on it. Unfortunatly it
came
without a manual (used). Is there a way to shut off these requests? or
is this
normal for this piece of equipment?

Any ideas? So far there is no harm...Just taking up log space.
