Hi Managers,
we have a Sony SDT-9000 DDS3 tape drive which is refusing to write in
compressed format on a DU4.0c system (without any patches applied).
Investigating this isssue I found that the tape is not in the
/etc/ddr.dbase database, and that default values without compression are
used to access the drive.
I also heard from a member of this list that the DEC TLZ10 tape drive in
the database is equivalent to the SDT-9000. I therefore copied this entry
in ddr.dbase, named it SDT-9000, and did a 'ddr_config -c'.
As a result now the mt -f .... status command includes a 'compacting' as a
unit status. However, writing to the tape gives CAM SCSI errors in the
binary error log. They include the strings 'ctape_compress_set' and
'illegal request or CDB parameter'.
Is there anyone who has successfully configured his/her system to use the
Sony SDT-9000 with compression ? Can someone mail me an entry to ddr.dbase
for the SDT-9000 which works with compression ? Or is there anything else
I have possibly overlooked ?
Thanks in advance
Goetz
