I received this reply from Larry. This machine has 400Mb of swap so
this shouldn't be an issue.

I had the experience that alpha could not recognize the new memory.
That is because my swap space is less than the physical memory.
If this is also the case for you, you need to add more swap space, then
power cycle the machine again.
