Increasing the default size of maxuprc

I am running a DEC Alphaserver 800. I am starting to get the following
error messages. I believe all I need to do is add a maxuprc=100 (or
more) entry to the servers config file, rebuild the kernel and reboot
the system.
But I cannot seem to find "ANY" information online or on book format
that references the maxuprc. Does anyone out there know what maxuprc
is for and if that is the proper way to configure it.

Dec 23 14:09:01 servername vmunix: task_create() failed for pid 14088:
maxuprc (=64) exceeded for uid 12.
Dec 23 14:19:25 servername vmunix: task_create() failed for pid 14397:
maxuprc (=64) exceeded for uid 12.
Dec 23 14:19:56 servername vmunix: task_create() failed for pid 12309:
maxuprc (=64) exceeded for uid 12.

Thanks in advance,
