I asked:
Managers,
I am attempting to add a used Storage Dimensions RAIDFlex array (model
SFX7-N) to an AlphaStation 233/255 running DU4.0b. I have added a KZPAA-AA
host SCSI controller card to the system. I can see the device when I do a
'show device' at the console prompt. I have booted to the generic kernel,
rebuilt the kernel with 'doconfig', and the device created was rz8. I have
rebooted and the device is recognized by the new kernel, however, when I
attempt to put a disklabel on the device I get an I/O error. I have
experience with StorageWorks RAID arrays and the swxcrmgr tool to configure
the groups, etc. I went to Storage Dimensions web page, but I only found
UNIX RAID utilities for Solaris and RS6000. If anyone has any ideas, please
e-mail me at...smcfa_at_hcia.com.
Dr. Tom Blinn and Alan Davis both replied with basically the same response.
I would need to contact Storage Dimensions tech support to figure out how
to
configure the array to be recognized by DU4.0b. Tom suggested to maybe hook
it up to a system that supports the RAIDFlex array software and configure
it there,
then swap it back to the DU system & see if it works. I don't really like
that scenario
because of potential future problems... how would I be notified if a disk
failed, etc.
Thank you for your responses, but I think that I will just send it back and
get
StorageWorks products.
