I've just patched 4.0D with the latest patchkit (#3), and notice
that sendmail is _still_ reporting "5.65v4.0". Why aren't
we at at least 8.8.5 by now? This is a real problem for me,
since while I usually just roll my own, _this_ machine is for
a tur(n)key app, and the vendor pitches a fit if we do any customizations
(not that it _affects_ anything, mind you - they're just silly).
I have a feeling that this vendor isn't yet supporting 4.0E yet,
either. :-<
So - am I just SOL?
Thanks to all who responded, but especially Richard Jackson ,
who set me on the right path. It turns out that (a) there _is_ a
patch for 4.0D that brings sendmail up to 8.8.7 available for contract
customers, but (b) it's only "unofficially supported". :-<
Support says "The only offical release of sendmail v8 will be in
Digital UNIX 4.0e."
So - either upgrade, or ask *very* nicely for a patchkit
containing IAFWSMTP340. In general, you're probably better off
upgrading.
Happy New Year!
