Locked out of Machine's firmware

Hi Everyone,

We have a bit of a problem. We had our Alpha 1000 set up to have console
on serial port 1. This has worked nicely for quite sometime. Now it seems
as though the serial port has gone bad. Is there any way ... other then
replacing the serial port/mother board to update the firmware to use
something other than serial port 1.
