8 mm QIC-WIDE tape with DU 4.0b?

I'll ask before I try it:

Does the Tandberg Data Panther Mini 4600 (TDC-4600) 8mm
(QIC-WIDE) tape drive work with DU 4.0b? The drive is
a SCSI device. Has anyone managed to connect such a drive to
DU 4.0x?
