TCP CLOSE_WAIT problem

Hi,
        Does anyone know what it means when a socket is at a CLOSE_WAIT state
(viewed using netstat), and if there is a way to get the socket unstuck?
Apparantly, from time to time, my netscape server seems to stop responding,
and at that moment I have a crazy amount of sockets at a CLOSE_WAIT state.
