v4.0b patch problems

     I have attempted to install patch #5 onto our DECAlpha 2100 system
     running 4.0b Digital Unix. Each time, I get the same results. After
     you install the 85 Patches and rebuild the kernel, the system will not
     boot.
     
     I get the following failure:
     
                invalid memory read access from kernel mode.
                faulty virtual address: 0x000000000000002c
                PC of faulting instruction: 0xfffffc000048fbd4
                RA contents at time of fault: 0xfffffc0000523068
                SP contents at time of fault: 0xffffffffa0217460
     
                panic (cpu 0): kernel memory fault
     
     At that time, I must boot from a previous version of the Kernel.
     
     Has anyone had similar problems?
     
     Does anyone know the resolution??
