Yesterday (!) I aksed you how I should build NIS domain between HP-UX
and my DUX Master because
no network services are avaibale after I enable NIS at the HP box.
Thanks to all how replied and each mail put my in the right direction:
Mike D Cross [crossmd_at_mh.uk.sbphrd.com]
Horst M. Meissner [horst_at_tkm.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de]
Donald L. Ritchey [dritchey_at_chidev1.psi.prc.com]
Christophe Retourna [retourna_at_univ-troyes.fr]
William Frederick [isdwcf_at_CGCU.COM]
The glue is to merge the system specifc entires of services into one
file which I could distribute with NIS
or to configure HP to use his local services first. My fault - because I
thought that's by shure the default
at HP too after a NIS setup - unfortunately it isn't. You have to copy
the nsswitch.conf from /usr/examples
to /etc and configure there which tables should be used local and which
from NIS as follows:
hosts: dns [TRYAGAIN=continue NOTFOUND=continue] nis
[TRYAGAIN=continue NOTFOUND=continue] files
services: files
protocols: files
networks: files
rpc: files
netgroup: nis
Special thanks to Horst M. Meissner [horst_at_tkm.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de]
how gave me the important hint whats such a config file and how to
configure.
I know why to love Digital Unix ... btw. I got my key chain "Y W8 4 HP -
Digital Unix LIVE FREE OR DIE"
last week from Digital. Just some questions at the the
www.unix.digital.com pages ;-)
best regards Dirk
