To summarize, I'm running DEC Unix 4.0 (not the updates A or B) with serial
printer support through multiple DECserver 700's. Until recently, the LAT
protocol was used to accomplish this since DU 4.0 didn't support remote
telnet (streams) printing to a DECserver (still tough to believe this at a
4.0 release but it is my understanding that this has been fixed with 4.0B).
Well, my ability to use LAT went away when the LAN/WAN was redesigned. I
received many suggestions, including unsupported copies of lpd from Digital
that was supposed to fix this (and didn't) and the winner is a little
program called DECspool.c that can be obtained at:
http://eisner.decus.org/DECUServe/DECnotes/UNIX_OS/225.1/NEXT_REPLY.HTML.
Though this little tool takes a little time to setup, it does seem to work
and though I haven't tested it, supports printing to the DECserver in this
manner from multiple platforms like SCO, Ultrix, BSD, etc...
Again, thanks...
