After upgrading my alphastation to du40d from du4.0b (actually a fresh
install), I recompiled the "pine" mail reader. because of the following
error message:
schubert:~/> /net/prod/appl/pine/pine3.96/bin/alpha/pine
29084:/net/prod/appl/pine/pine3.96/bin/alpha/pine: /sbin/loader: Fatal
Error: object libcurses.so from liblist in
/net/prod/appl/pine/pine3.96/bin/alpha/pine has version "osf.1", which
does not match the found object: /usr/shlib/libcurses.so (with version
"xpg4")
The old pine probably was compiled on a du4.0b system or older, I do not
recall precisely. The only changes made to the distributed source for pine
is the *location* of pine.conf, pine.conf.fixed and the help files.
Now, the new pine works fine except for the following "feature" (that
appears on both 4.0b and 4.0d systems):
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In some pine sessions the high bit will be stripped on 8 bit terminal
input so that the special danish characters (in ISO-8859-1 ecoding) is
changed to xfe. Sometimes this happens from the beginning of the session,
sometimes after some time/use. It might be so that the highbit stripping
can disappear from a session, but I am not sure I have seen this.
The problem has been seen with pine running in a xterm and with pine
running in a telnet session in a windows terminal emulator.
We use
tcsh 6.07.02 (Astron) 1996-10-27 (alpha-dec-osf1) options 8b,nls,dl,al,rh
for login shell.
