Runaway Mail Processes: MORE INFO

John was right; I should have been more specific ... I'll blame that on
pre-coffee brain-fade.

We are using Pine as a mailer ... on both of our systems; however, this
behavior is only being exhibited on the system in which our students lurk
(big surprise ... :)

Basically, mail processes start eating up the system CPU, and the ps aux
looks something like the following (my boss killed it before I got to copy
it this morning):

-AA894nl8437

Dr. Blinn also wrote and suggested we upgrade since our unixes (unixi? :)
are archaic, which they are. Unfortunately, our software vendors haven't
given us the thumbs-up to upgrade, so either we lose support for our unix
or our databases. Obviously, a no-brainer. We are currently pushing to
change those with our vendors, but we're stuck at the moment.

In addition, we're seeing runaways from Lynx and WebZ, one of our vendor
processes. For now, we're just killing these processes as we see them, but
I wondered if anyone had experienced the same problem and/or had any idea
how I could track down what is spawning these processes.

Thanks for your indulgence.
