dbx problems when spawning a SUID process

Under both 3.2G and 4.0d, we are having a problem when some of our
engineers try to debug a process which must spawn a suid root application
to mount a cdrom. The process they are debugging definitely needs to run
as a user, and we have no way under DUnix to mount the cdrom as a user.

The symptom that an engineer has been debugging the program is rather
simple: a memory stack overflow causes a complete machine hang.

It was isolated to that section of the code and a small test program was
built that produces the same difficulties.

The problem goes away if we debug the test program as root.

Anyone seen something like this, or have ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks
