Dear All,
We are in the process of unifying our historical NIS domains. One of
which has a SUN master and the other a DEC master (DU4.0B patch 6).
We ideally want the DEC machine to be the master as this keeps the
critical points of failure down (most of our users live in DEC land).
On the client side we have Solaris 2.x systems.
The problem we have is that the NIS passwd map doesn't appear to bind
correctly from the DEC master to a SUN client. When trying a ypcat
it gives the error "can't communicate with ypbind". Using the same
nsswitch options we can just revert to the SUN NIS (not plus) master
by editing the defaultdomain and, hey presto, everything works fine.
Is anyone out there using this type of configuration ? If so have you
any magic runes to make it work or any general advice.
I've hunted through the osf-managers archive and drawn a blank. Plenty
people run things successfully the otherway around (i.e. SUN NIS master
to DEC client) but...
Any help would be gratefully received.
Many Thanks,
-Will Flett
