Telnet and ftp freezes

Does anyone have a problem with telnet sessions that freeze. I received a
number of complaints from my users and I decided to test the problem out
myself. I dialed into a ppp modem pool and accessed my Alphaserver 800 (DU
4.0B) using Qvtterm. I started a large file transfer using ws_ftp and after
a period of time the telnet session froze. The file transfer continued and I
was able to start another telnet session, once logged in I could see the old
shell session but I could not regain access through the old telnet session.
Occasionally my users also complain of a frozen ftp session I also noticed
that the ftp processes don't always terminate after the user logs out with
their ftp client. I think the telnet and ftp problems are related. I have no
Ierrs on the network interface or any other obvious interface problems.
