Hello,

THANKS TO:

Kurt Carlson <snkac_at_java.sois.alaska.edu>:

SUMMARY:
The bottom line is to get the disk drive firmware updates via your local
Digital Field Service. This is normally initiated by placing a call with
Digital Customer Support Center (CSC) at 1-800-354-9000.

The current firmware revisions are as follows...

DISK DRIVE SIZE REVISION
--------------- ------- ---------------------
RZ29B-VW 4GB 0014 or 0016 is fine
RZ29B-VA 4GB 0014 or 0016 is fine
DS-RZ1CB-VW 4GB 0014 or 0016 is fine
SWXD3-SE 4GB 0014 or 0016 is fine
RZ28D-VW 2GB 0010 is min
RZ28-VA 2GB 442D is min
RZ28M-VA 2GB 0744 is min
DS-RZ40-VA 9GB LYG0 is min
---------------------------------------------

QUESTION:
I am in search of the Digital recommended minimum firmware levels with
associated release notes for various Digital disks. Digital does a good
job with system and option firmware resources and information --
Firmware Update CDROM and
ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware. I figure there must
be something similar for their disk drives available to customers.
>From time to time I call up our local Digital Field Service office for
the firmware. Is there a FTP or web site that Digital keeps current on
this topic? I have asked CSC for such in the past twice and got dumped
on my field service engineers lap.

My reason is I need to rule out various SWXCR disk soft errors and AdvFS
panic's are not disk firmware issues.

I have the following disks;

RZ29B-VW 4GB
RZ29B-VA 4GB
DS-RZ1CB-VW 4GB
SWXD3-SE 4GB
RZ28D-VW 2GB
RZ28-VA 2GB
RZ28M-VA 2GB
DS-RZ40-VA 9GB

RESPONSES:
---------------------------------------------------------
sanghvi_at_proto.wilm.ge.com (arun sanghvi):
Please let me know what you find out. I was told by our
FE that the customers are responsible for the firmware
upgrade for disks.

Same experience I had, if you hear otherwise please summarize.

>RZ29B-VW 4GB
>RZ29B-VA 4GB

0016 (on both)

>DS-RZ1CB-VW 4GB
>SWXD3-SE 4GB

don't know the above 2.

>RZ28D-VW 2GB

0008

>RZ28-VA 2GB

442d

>RZ28M-VA 2GB

0616

>DS-RZ40-VA 9GB

xz40

Since we are now on a gold contract now, we should (allegedly) be
informed if there is anything newer. regards, kurt
